Muskerry
Located in Central Victoria, 33km east of Bendigo in the communities of Muskerry and Toolleen, the Muskerry Solar Power Station is currently in the development phase. Developed by Edify, the project will stretch across approximately 500 hectares of predominantly grazed land. The power station, once complete, could generate up to 612,000 MWh per annum of renewable energy.
Planning Application is complete, and planning permits approved for the project. The application package has been submitted to Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), and DEECA does not object to the granting of a planning permit.
Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), any project that may significantly impact a Matter of National Environmental Significance must be approved by the Australian Government’s Minister for the Environment. The Minister determines whether a project requires further assessment and approval under the EPBC Act.
Edify’s ecological assessment, submitted with the planning permit, concluded that a referral under the EPBC Act is not necessary. However, to provide additional assurance and ensure the Federal Government is fully satisfied with the project’s approval, Edify voluntarily referred the project to the Minister. On 19th November 2024 the Minister determined the proposed action is not a controlled action, meaning the proposed action does not require further assessment and approval under the EPBC Act before it can proceed.
The Project will connect into the AusNet 220kV distribution system, providing green energy to 93,000 households. At peak construction, the Project will employ approximately 350 staff, predominantly sourcing from the local community.
The Muskerry Solar Power Station is on the traditional land of the Taungurung First Nation People. Edify acknowledges the traditional custodians of the Taungurung people, whose many clans share one language and a deep spiritual connection with Country.
