Callide
The Callide Solar Power Station is located north-east of Biloela, Queensland, on the traditional lands of the Gaangalu Nation People. The project is also located within the Callide Renewable Energy Zone.
Currently in development phase, the project has the potential to accommodate up to 240MWp of clean solar photovoltaic electricity generation and up to 200MW / 800MWh of energy storage in the form of an integrated battery. Construction is anticipated to commence in financial year 2025/26.
Edify secured the Planning Permit from Banana Shire Council in 2023 and the EPBC Act Permit in July 2024.
An initial trial of 49 sheep will be co-located on the completed power station, which will gradually increase to 1,000 sheep. The co-location of sheep grazing on site has many benefits including an ongoing agricultural use of the site, long-term improvement in soil quality and low impact weed management. The sheep benefit from higher growth rates and fertility, and shading from the harsh Australian sun under the solar panels.
At peak construction, the project will employ around 230 people full time, recruiting local trades, workers and businesses as much as possible. During the build, which will take approximately 18 months, the community can expect to benefit from the positive economic flow to local hospitality, retail and general business. Once complete, the project will employ 7 people full time.
