Edify Energy has reached another major delivery milestone, achieving financial close on the Ganymirra and Majors Creek solar and battery hybrid projects in Queensland.
Located in Woodstock near Townsville in North Queensland, the Ganymirra and Majors Creek integrated hybrid projects comprise, in aggregate, 360MWp of solar and 300MW / 1,200MWh of battery storage. The projects:
- Leverage a market-first greenfield renewable energy portfolio financing package across a syndicate of 14 domestic and international lenders, with approximately $3.2 billion of project financing committed across these projects and the 720MWp / 2,400MWh Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap projects that reached financial close in May 2026;
- Convert another tranche of Edify’s development pipeline into critical energy infrastructure, underscoring the strength of its delivery platform and the strong support of Edify’s shareholder, La Caisse;
- Are backed by the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme and are Edify’s 3rd and 4th projects to reach financial close under the scheme; and
- Generate lasting economic value for regional Queensland through jobs, local procurement, First Nations participation and workforce capability building.
With support of Edify’s shareholder, La Caisse, and a syndicate of domestic and international lenders, reaching financial close on the Ganymirra and Majors Creek projects demonstrate how strategic partnerships and innovative financing structures can accelerate the delivery of renewable energy projects.
The projects are part of Edify’s broader development and delivery program, backed by a market-first greenfield renewable energy portfolio financing package. The financing platform, supported by 14 domestic and international lenders, provides a scalable framework for continued investment in Australia’s energy transition. In addition to the portfolio project financing, the projects are also supported by a first-in-market corporate level financing facility.
Located on Thul Garrie Waja country, the traditional lands of the Bindal People, the Ganymirra and Majors Creek projects will be delivered as integrated hybrid energy assets, combining 360MWp of solar generation with 300MW / 1,200MWh of battery storage through reverse DC-coupled technology and a single set of grid-forming inverters. The projects will be capable of storing low-cost solar energy and dispatching it when demand is highest. The approach enhances network stability while increasing the value and availability of renewable energy. Once operational in 2028, the projects will generate enough electricity to power over 100,000 homes.
The projects are supported by DT Infrastructure as EPC contractor, CATL as battery supplier and Powerlink as network and connection works head contractor.
The projects support the ongoing development of regional Queensland through significant local investment, employment and skills development opportunities. During construction, the projects will employ around 400 local workers and a further 10 ongoing positions created during operations. More than $450 million is expected to flow into local communities through regional supply chains, local employment, First Nations businesses and associated economic activity.
Ben Warne, Chief Executive Officer, Edify Energy, said:
“Successive milestones across Smoky Creek, Guthrie’s Gap, Ganymirra and Majors Creek projects demonstrate the strength of our business, our people and our ability to consistently progress projects from concept to construction and play our part in accelerating the energy transition and ensuring low cost and reliable energy security.
The combination of large-scale solar generation, reverse DC-coupled battery storage and advanced grid-forming technology means these projects can provide the affordance energy, reliability, flexibility and system support that the future electricity network requires. We are proud of the contribution that these projects will make to the objectives in the Queensland Energy Roadmap, in delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all Queenslanders
We are thankful for the strong support provided by the Commonwealth Government through the Capacity Investment Scheme, which continues to accelerate investment in renewable energy generation and dispatchable capacity. These projects represent the 3rd and 4th projects to reach financial close with the scheme’s support.
Projects succeed when communities share in the prosperity. Ganymirra and Majors Creek are backed by commitments to local procurement, employment, training and long-term Community and First Nations funding, creating a legacy that will extend throughout the projects’ operating life and beyond.”
