Bells Mountain

The Bells Mountain Energy Storage System is in the Upper Hunter region of NSW, on the traditional lands of the Wonnarua / Wanaruah people.

The project is located at McCully’s Gap, approximately 7 km northeast of Muswellbrook town center within the Muswellbrook Local Government Area, on previously cleared land.

The 750 MW / 1,500 MWh battery will store and discharge energy when the grid needs it most, helping to support reliable power during periods of peak demand. At full charge, the battery could supply approximately 75,000 homes.

The project is in the development phase and has progressed through ongoing community consultation since 2025, including council led community sessions, door-knocking, project community sessions and community forums.

The project’s Environmental Impact Assessment Report was submitted in July 2026.
